Message of Unity & Brotherhood by His Eminence on the occasion of the 1475th Eid Milad-un-Nabi (Allah bless him and give him peace) in Mauritius on 04 June 2001 |
The salawaat (blessings) and salaams (salutations) on the beloved Prophet Muhammad (Allah bless him and give him peace) by Imam Ahle Sunnat Shah Ahmad Raza Khan Qadiri (may his soul be sanctified) in Urdu is spontaneous. This great Sufi and poet has composed all types of religious poetry in Urdu (and some in Farsi), most of them contained in his collection of poems, the Hadaaiq-e-Bakhshish (Gardens of Bliss). His will be forever remembered for his most famous 'salaam' on the noble Prophet (Allah bless him and give him peace) which is the longest salaam in any language with 169 verses.
Imam Ahle Sunnat Ahmad Raza Khan Qadiri (may Allah be pleased with him) indicated that it was impermissible [innovation - bidat] to hear and play Qawalli [a small troupe of singers who sing for the mystics/Sufis], with musical instruments.
In Turkey, the Sunni brotherhoods (Tarikat) such as the Halveti (Khalwatiyya), Rifai (Rifaiyya) and Qadiri (Qadiriyya) engage in the collective musical dhikr that was the principal Ottoman dervish ceremony. In the true spirit of dhikr (recollection of God), divine names, hymns and songs of mystical love (gazel) are sung.
Some Mystical Orders, like the Tariqa Aliyyah Qadiriyyah Casnazaniyyah of Shaikh Sayyid Muhammad al-Casnazani al-Husseini who lives in Hay Hutten, Baghdad, the circle of zikr is accompanied with tambourines and a special drum that Shaikh Sayyiduna Abdul Qadir Jilani (may Allah sanctify his soul) introduced for it's beneficial effects on the heart of the disciple.
Tabala Wolof is the mystical drum music of the mystic religious order, the Qadiriya of Senegal. When the Qadiriya arrived in Senegal, the Wolof adopted two sticks for the bass drum. For centuries before that the, the Qadiriya worshippers had observed their ancestors instructions to play the bass drum with one stick. Boubacar Diagne is a direct descendant of a Berber who came to Senegal with the first Qadiriya.
